The Caterer
The leading multimedia brand for the UK hospitality industry since 1878, with a market-leading print, digital and events portfolio.
One of the longest running projects during my time at Jacobs Media Group, The Caterer website was a mammoth undertaking both from a design and development perspective.
This is a digital platform for a publication that has a very large amount of viewership and is updated daily with news and engaging content for the hospitality industry.
The prior website iteration was built on WordPress which was struggling to keep up with the amount of visitors and content that it was being asked to handle. Along with this, the website also fell short of the needs of the publication, with insufficient functionality to truly offer its customers what they needed.
My role in this project was to audit the existing site, workshop with the editors, content managers and key stakeholders for The Caterer ,as well as surveying customers in order to define what was needed in an updated website.
As well as evidence gathering and workshopping I was solely responsible for the wireframing, prototyping and designing of the website in its entirety.
The designs were created in Sketch, prototyped in Invision, and documented for development within Zeplin.
Due to the nature of the website and it’s astronomical size and intricate functionality the entire process of design before being handed to development took about three and a half months.
The website was developed on a bespoke CMS and took multiple developers spanning several international teams more than a year to produce before being successfully launched.
